Connection Church began in 2008 with 7 people in a pond house with a desire to see our community changed. A couple months later we moved to an old Pawn Shop that we now affectionally call the “Blue Building.” These were very humble beginnings, but God continued to do exceedingly more than we could have ever imagined. We went to 3 services in that little building and eventually made the transition to Statesboro High School. Going from a permanent facility to a mobile one definitely had its challenges, but through it all we saw hundreds of people make decisions for Christ, get Baptized, and grow in their relationship with the Lord.
In 2012 we started the One and One Project to raise money for our current building. We didn’t want our church to be just about a “building” so we decided to raise an additional $1.5 million dollars that matched the $1.5 million we needed to break ground that would go to Missions and Outreach (for more information about One and One please click HERE). In 2014 we moved into our current building and continued to see God grow His church, but this time it wasn’t just here in Statesboro. From 2015-2018 we planted campuses each year in Vidalia, Millen, Dublin and Savannah Georgia respectively.
Going from one campus to five in 4 years came with incredible celebrations as well as incredible challenges. In 2019 through much prayer, we decided to that our goal needed to be roll each of these campuses out as an individual autonomous church of their own. We do not believe that planting campuses was a mistake, but much like our own children, in order for these other Churches to truly do all that God desired them to do at some point they had to go out on their own. Each Connection Church remains committed to staying in relationship with one another and partnering in sharing the gospel and planting additional churches.
Since this rolloff took place, we have been praying intensely on what does God desire to do through Connection next? The first 10 years we were laser focused on connecting unbelievers to God and believers to each other and we believe that was a necessary part of the process. Today we still desire to do that, however, we want to begin focusing even more on preparing and equipping people to do God’s work in the world. In order to do this we have 2 main goals we hope to accomplish:
- The church grows to maturity in Christ.
- The Church moves from the “Pastoral” or “Dependency” model of ministry to the Biblical model
From the very beginning we have always been committed to listen to God and doing what he says. We believe we are called to keep things simple, and keep the main thing (Jesus) the main thing. We never could have imagined what God would do through his church since we first began, and continue to believe that the best is still yet to come!
Philosophy of Ministry: Simple.
We believe the vision of any church, should be the same as what is seen in Scripture. We see the first command to man in Scripture of Genesis 1:26-28 and the last words of Jesus in Acts 1:8 are strikingly similar: That our purpose is to fill the earth with God’s image and transforming it in a way that brings him glory.
Preparing people to do God’s work in the world.
There are a lot of thins a church “can do” but we believe Connection is called to keep things very simple and just focus on 4 areas: Sunday Worship, Kids and Student Ministries, Connect Groups, and Missions and Outreach. Everything we do falls in one of those areas.
