The Letters | Week 2 | Revelation 2:8-11
May 9, 2015

In Revelation 2:8–11, Jesus encourages the suffering church in Smyrna to remain faithful, even when following him brings hardship. He knows their affliction and poverty, and he reminds them of the life that reaches beyond what they can see. Their example challenges us to consider where comfort has led us to compromise and whether we are listening to God and doing what he says. Our courage rests in the risen Christ, who is unchanging, victorious, and present in our struggles. As we receive his grace, we can turn from hidden sin, speak the truth in love, and trust him with the cost of obedience.
