The Letters | Week 1 | Revelation 2:1-7

In Revelation 2:1–7, the church in Ephesus has worked hard and guarded the truth, yet lost its first love. Jesus sees beyond outward faithfulness to the condition of the heart, inviting his people to remember, repent, and return to him. We can become busy with religious activity while trying to earn an acceptance that Christ has already offered through faith. His love frees us from condemnation, while his Spirit continues to reveal the sin that needs our response. As we remember the grace that brought us near, we can lay aside superficial faith and let love for Jesus and others shape what we do.
