In Galatians 5, Paul describes the struggle between the desires of the flesh and a life led by the Spirit. Jesus’ invitation to drink living water points us to the gift of the Holy Spirit, who makes us alive, brings conviction, and equips us to follow Christ. We are called to respond to his work with daily repentance and obedience, trusting his strength as we take our next step. Love, joy, peace, and the other fruit of the Spirit describe what he grows in us. Our freedom in Christ calls us away from sin and toward a life that reflects his character to others.
